Pedestrians, Little Tokyo

Two pedestrians cross paths on 3rd Street in Little Tokyo. The Japanese-American district in downtown Los Angeles is one of only three remaining official Japantowns left in the United States, all in California.

Oil Well, Signal Hill

This type of oil well, at the corner of Willow and Walnut in Signal Hill, looks like a giant mechanical grasshopper. Many of them in this area are owned by Signal Hill Petroleum.

Home For Sale, Bixby Knolls

A beautiful home on a corner lot is for sale in Bixby Knolls, an affluent neighborhood of Long Beach. This property is on Pacific Ave. and is offered by Discovery Realty. After several years of rising values, homes are now taking longer to sell and some areas are experiencing declines in real estate prices.

U.S. Open of Surfing, Huntington Beach

OK, so Huntington Beach is in Orange County. But it is one of those places that's part of the L.A. landscape. For those of us who grew up in L.A., Huntington Beach has always been a summer hotspot. This image of a surfer competing in the U.S. Open of Surfing was shot from the pier.

Castle Green, Pasadena

Castle Green was built as a resort in 1898 in Pasadena. It's such a cool building that it's difficult to describe, but you've probably seen it in a movie or commercial because it's often used as a filming location. The rooms are now individually-owned apartments, and there are several public rooms and gardens available for events. It also has special significance for me - it's where my wife and I got married 10 years ago today. :)

Local Deliveries, Toy District

Boxes of toys are being delivered to local vendors in the Toy District, a common sight in this busy area just east of downtown Los Angeles. Hundreds of wholesale and retail shops are open to the public, and it gets pretty crowded on weekends.

Tennis Courts, Walnut

These tennis courts and students are on the campus of Mt. San Antonio College, aka Mt. SAC, in the city of Walnut. The college is well-known for hosting the annual Mt. SAC Relays track and field competition every April.

Birdseye View, Central City

This is not the typical view of Downtown Los Angeles, unless you happen to work on the 49th floor of the Aon Center. I was up there for a photo shoot and just couldn't pass up the opportunity to capture this unique perspective, looking west from 707 Wilshire Blvd. in the Central City district.

Will Rogers State Beach, Pacific Palisades

This is the intersection of Temescal Canyon Road and Pacific Coast Highway in Pacific Palisades. To the left of this image is Will Rogers State Beach, and to the right are the beautiful hills and homes of the Palisades.

Green Pleasure Pier, Avalon

This image was selected from my photographic archives. The Green Pleasure Pier in Avalon on Catalina Island, just off the Southern California coast, was photographed in 1995. The small pier in the harbor has been an island landmark since it was built in 1920.

Apartment Building, Wilshire Center

This side-view of the Catalina Tropics apartment building at 5th & Catalina gives a good perspective of the monotony of cramped living space in the Wilshire Center district of L.A.

Buddhist Temple, Hacienda Heights

The Hsi Lai Temple was built in 1988 on a 15-acre hillside property in Hacienda Heights and its design is faithful to ancient Chinese monasteries.

Christmas in July, Monrovia

A set has been prepared to film a movie scene on Lime Ave. in Monrovia, complete with fake Christmas trees and Santa Claus riding in a sleigh. There was also a crew putting together a snow machine, so it appears that it will be a white Christmas.

Police on Horseback, Los Angeles

L.A.P.D. officers on horseback cross 1st Street just east of City Hall in Los Angeles. It's such an unusual sight to see horses in downtown L.A.

Billboard, Beverly Hills

I thought this was a cool looking billboard plastered over the Rodeo Drive storefront of what may eventually be a new store for Juicy Couture in Beverly Hills.

Football Field, Diamond Bar

This patch of dirt doesn't look like much right now, but it's a work in progress at Lorbeer Middle School. The result will be a beautiful new football field in the city of Diamond Bar.

Rural Driveway, La Habra Heights

This driveway just off of Hacienda Road is pretty typical of many private driveways in La Habra Heights. It's a hilly rural town at the south-eastern edge of L.A. County.

Rams Reunion, Los Angeles

Former Rams announcer Dick Enberg welcomes guests to the Los Angeles Coliseum to celebrate 70 years of Rams football during the two-day Rams Reunion 2007. The private event brought together players, coaches and staff members from several eras of Rams history.

Felix Chevrolet, Los Angeles

Little did I know that this iconic sign in Los Angeles that I photographed a few days ago would be declared a historic cultural landmark by the Cultural Heritage Commission, and featured in today's L.A. Times. The Felix Chevrolet sign has been a landmark since 1958, towering over the intersection of Figueroa St. and Jefferson Blvd.

Farmers Market, South Pasadena

The weekly Farmers Market in South Pasadena takes place on Thursdays between 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm on Meridian Ave. at Mission St. Lots of fresh produce and food booths in a great family atmosphere.
