L.A. Snapshot concludes after a one year photographic tour of the Los Angeles area. I've returned safely to Union Station, the starting point of the journey and it's been a gratifying experience to share my views of L.A. with you. Thank you for taking the time to visit, and feel free to browse back through the archives. Also, I'd love to hear from you regarding L.A. Snapshot, and also about ideas for a photography series you'd like to see.

Twohey's Restaurant, Alhambra

Twohey's Restaurant in Alhambra is the "Home of the Little Stink-O", the mascot on their neon sign seen here. In business since 1943 and famous for their onion rings and sundaes, this restaurant used to have a car-hop service, but it was discontinued after remodeling in 1977.

This photo kiosk in Altadena, called FotoBuster, is no longer in business. It's a standing relic of what used to be a popular and convenient way to get film processed and printed. The leader of this drive-thru industry was Fotomat, which once had over 4000 locations throughout the United States.

The marshy surroundings of Lake Machado at Harbor Regional Park were the stomping grounds of Reggie the alligator for nearly two years. He had been released there by pet owners, then eluded teams of hunters until finally captured earlier this year. Reggie managed to put Harbor City on the map as animal lovers around the world checked in on his status during his stay in the park.

Thousand Oaks is just outside L.A. County, but is the host city for the 7th Annual HomeAid Los Angeles/Ventura Project Playhouse. This service project helps build or renovate transitional housing for temporarily homeless individuals and families. The playhouses, like the firehouse being forklifted into place here last week, are on display starting this weekend at The Lakes for about a month before they are auctioned off to the highest bidders.

The West Adams Heights/Sugar Hill area of Los Angeles was developed between 1900 and 1920, catering to the wealthy entrepreneurs of that era. After the Great Depression, the area hit hard times. Castle Green, Pasadena

Castle Green was built as a resort in 1898 in Pasadena. It's such a cool building that it's difficult to describe, but you've probably seen it in a movie or commercial because it's often used as a filming location. The rooms are now individually-owned apartments, and there are several public rooms and gardens available for events. It also has special significance for me - it's where my wife and I got married 10 years ago today. :)

Boxes of toys are being delivered to local vendors in the Toy District, a common sight in this busy area just east of downtown Los Angeles. Hundreds of wholesale and retail shops are open to the public, and it gets pretty crowded on weekends.

This image was selected from my photographic archives. The Green Pleasure Pier in Avalon on Catalina Island, just off the Southern California coast, was photographed in 1995. The small pier in the harbor has been an island landmark since it was built in 1920.
